How To Find The Best Silk Sheets

by Charlean D. on February 18, 2010

Silk sheets are one of the best additions to your home bedding ensemble that you could ever make. There is no material that is finer, more luxurious and comfortable to the touch then silk. The reason why most people would never even think for even a moment about purchasing a set of silk sheets is because of the price tag associated with it; contrary to popular belief, these bed sheets are more affordable then you might think. When it comes to a good night’s sleep, you can’t really argue with having the most amount of comfort in your bed to help you get your rest. As if the touch and feel of silk wasn’t enough, there is a health advantage to sleeping with silk every night too.

Silk bed sheets have been used by royalty and other sophisticatedly high class people of society for hundreds of years. Silk was once cherished as the prized trading material in the East and it even served to spawn the “Silk Road” which was the term used for one of the most successful trading routes in the history of civilization. Owning a pair of silk sheets is something that you would be amazed to learn is not out of the means that you would have otherwise expected them to be.

Silk is produced by silkworms during a long and slow process which is primarily the reason why silk is so expensive and costly. Silk sheet sets have a lot more to them then just the soft and luxurious feel you would expect. Studies have shown that silk is actually beneficial for the skin and the hair, meaning that sleeping on it night after night could come with some long term health benefits as well as superior comfort.

Not all silk sheets are created equal and cheap silk sheets might undermine your expectations and get the better out of your budget. When buying or looking for a silk sheet for your bed you need to pay close attention to both the thread count and the momme weight. The best silk sheets are going to have a thread count of at least 400 and a momme weight in the area of about 18-20; those are the best specifications you need to look for when it comes to finding the best pure silk sheets as possible. Anything less then that might not live up to your expectations in terms of what you should have your silk sheets do for you.
